The British National Party...

This is probably the main reason I have started this blog, but by no means will it be all I write about.

The BNP are a scary thought in England, especially after the European Parliament elections. People tell me not to get so riled up, that they won't get anymore power than they already have (they won due to voter apathy, not due to increasing popularity - they gained less votes than they did in 2004), but the fact that at least 943,000 people voted them in to EU Parliament is quite scary to say the least. At present, with the English population being somewhere between 50 and 52 million people, I'm not shaking in my boots about the BNP's proposed policy changes just yet, but the fact that people are listening and helping to garner support and funds for this extremist party does scare me. Maybe I'm naive, but I really never thought there would be almost a million through and through racist people in England in 2009. This may seem harsh considering we live in a democratic society - but when you vote in individuals who have been convicted of incitement of racial hatred and deny the holocaust ever existed, you can only be really, really thick... or racist (and fascist AND homophobic). Have we not learnt from the civil wars and problems of the less developed countries of the world? Race does not matter!

The further chord that this outcome strikes with me is that Yorkshire and Humberside voted in one of the 2 new BNP Members of European Parliament. Being from Leeds, again, I never realised the sheer number of people in such close proximity shared these kind of views, and I just feel like now is a time for everyone to truly make an effort in England. Integration of all cultures and races, re-education for those who are misguided as to the policies that are currently in place, the traditions of other cultures and the facts of criminal behaviour and the BNP's party members. The BNP are playing on the stereotypes that non-white English races have, and in many cases live up to - this needs to stop. No 1 person is represented by a group.

So I've decided I'm going to do a little experiment. I'm going to create a different account on Facebook and join a number of the BNP groups (the lead group containing over 10,000 members), possibly pretending to be white, possibly not. I'd like to get a true insight into what the BNP's voters really think, deep down and whether they are indeed racist, or merely misguided by false truths disguised as politics. I was born and bred in England... nobody can tell me otherwise. It will be interesting to see whether they are in agreement of all of the BNP's proposed policies or whether they are simply selective supporters - I already came across one individual who refers to himself as "queer" yet is an avid BNP supporter, although he realises the policies they previously promoted would leave him imprisoned. The BNP are very clever, they have removed all of the material on their website relating to issues that they can't twist in such a way that it is beneficial to them at this moment in time, but having been interested in this right-wing party for almost 6 years and with the joys of the referencing material WIKIPEDIA (yes, I know it's not accurate on everything, but in this instance the citations have merely been removed by the party from their website) I am fully aware that the BNP would re criminalize homosexuality if they could, and have even suggesting bring back "Clause 28" into the English Legal process - laws whereby anyone promoting homosexuality is subjected to criminal proceedings.

Anyway... let you know how it goes... if you can be bothered, let me know what you think.
