L'Oreal found guilty of racists ads - Essence.com
You know what? L'Oreal is shit anyway!! Bourjois does much better make-up, as do MAC and Bobbi Brown. Their hair products suck, their hair colourants are substandard... who is really surprised anyway? Beyonce is practically white for her L'Oreal adverts, and aside from Kerry Washington, it generally is only light-skinned ladies representing this brand (funnily enough many are not "BBR" as well as tanned is permanently in).
It's funny that they will create products to attempt to emulate the skin colour of the people they refuse to hire to promote their brand. BOSSIP.COM said it right, let's band together to BOYCOTT this brand... if you're not good enough to work for the company, why are they good enough for us to buy??
To be honest, L'Oreal was never fooling anyone anyway... we all know that you can't use those products on weave, as much as Beyonce may try and convince us otherwise...

VENUE - The Den & Centro (EVENT - FUNK ME I'M A VIRGIN)
Aptly named "The Den & Centro" can be found on West Central Street near Holborn/Tottenham Court Road in Central London, just off Museum Street. The venue spans three floors, the top floor being the VIP section, the second floor being at ground level with a long Minstry-esque bar spanning the length of the room. The bottom floor is almost like two (this is what referred to as "the den"), and there are a set of stairs which lead down to this level, with the elevated part of the den being a more chilled out seating area with lots of room to dance, and the lower part containing the DJ booth and masses of space to dance.
As this is a club, the door fee does differ from night to night, and the usual listings can be found on the venue's website, with regular Monday, Tuesday and Friday nights. As they have a 24 hour license, they do host private or special club nights, and FUNK ME I'M A VIRGIN was most definitely one of these.
With standard tickets starting at £5 and VIP tickets at £20, with the line-up of big urban funky house DJs, this definitely was a steal for the funky skankers out there. I arrived at about 11, and the venue was already pretty busy, with hoards of people waiting in the queue outside, eager to get inside to the music. Once inside, I was quite amazed at how big the place is - not surprising with capacity of 800 in the den alone and 275 for the rest of the venue. But it still seemed bigger because it was far from standard in it's layout.
There were bowls of candy for people to help themselves to which was definitely useful for the well needed sugar enegry boost with a lineup of the following:
DJ's
MARCUS "AYIA NAPA" NASTY, KID N PLAY, GUMBO, FLAVA, LIVE LINQ, INVASION CREW, RAW VYBES, CAMEO, TOP BOYS, DEEJAY KRAMER, DUN DEAL, DOCTA COSMIC & FATZ, LOVE CONNEXION
HOST's
GRACIOUS "NAPA MAN" K, RISKGO, KAOS, MC VERSATILE, CREEPA, "TRIBAL MAN" MAGZ, CHARMZ, SHARKY, FUNKY DEE
PA's
FUZZY LOGIK & EGYPT - IN IN THE MORNING
The promoters well and truly perfected this night, despite the last minute venue change from regular funky host "SOUND", there were one or two drinks offers - VK bottles and Fosters at £2.50, with double vodka mixers (excluding Red Bull) at £3.50. Pretty decent prices for a night in Central, you'd be hard stretched finding them somewhere else with the same calibre of DJs playing.
The dancefloor was understandably packed to the walls, with the funky skankers taking up their places right inside in front of the DJ booth. It was a great sight to see, you definitely felt like any money spent was not wasted... the turn out was great! Despite the title of the event, there were a couple of other urban styles thrown in so nobody was left out - the best of the best were picked, if you enjoy any form of urban music, this event would not have disappointed you in the slightest! Student funky house lovers were grateful to attend this event no doubt, although if you didn't come early enough it may have been harder to get in because it was well and truly a ROADBLOCK! If this is what we're going to be seeing from the promoters this summer, seriously... BRING IT ON.
My final point to make, as it will always be, was the crowd. Unsurprisingly what would be perceived as a "ghetto" or urban crowd, consisting of primarily black and bi-racial individuals, everyone was dressed to the nines, but there were also a substantial number of Asian people enjoying the event too. It's great to see a little more diversity in these events, hopefully it will keep growing - but I don't think the atmosphere was anything but fun, there were a few troublemakers, but all in all, everyone was just enjoying having their funky house fun. FUNK ME I'M A VIRGIN was a wild success in my eyes, partygoers were left practically melted and worn out - what more proof do you need that fun was had?

VENUE - The Sports Cafe London (EVENT - SCUK; Sport's Cafe Student Night)
The Sport's Cafe can be found in not only London, but also in Leeds (wahey!), Birmingham and Glasgow. The venue in London is located at the bottom of Haymarket, just off Picadilly Circus with a venue spanning two floors, filled with sporting goodness for the men, and completed by four bars of cost-effective drinking for anybody else who wishes to join in.
Admittedly upon arrival (which was promptly before 10pm to avoid cover charges which do not usually apply before this time), I was overwhelmed by just how nice the bar was considering it seems to be inhabited by hundreds of very "manly" male sports fans throughout the day. For the keen sports fan there are large high definition plasma screens dotted around the bar displaying an array of sports channels including Sky Sports, so you're never missing a trick and you can be sure to see any large sporting event being screened here. There are mini screens in the walls alongside the booths on the bottom floor - very handy if you're feeling a little peckish but want to keep an eye on the game (as you can change channel), and there are seven pool tables on the top floor to keep your female companions entertained if you've dragged them along to watch something that they're not particularly interested in! Everybody loves pool! The venue also boasts an exclusive executive box and further private areas with quieter bars, more secluded HD screens (as well as projectors) and other entertainment - such as Wii consoles. The sporty atmosphere is completed by the large hanging Formula One racing car which you can see when you take a wander up the stairs.
I visited on a Tuesday night, as I mentioned it was free before 10pm, but the website does state that a cover charge may apply after 9.30pm on some nights, so this is definitely worth keeping in mind. In this instance, after 10pm it was still only £5 entry. The venue packed up quite quickly, although it took until about 11.30pm for the DJ to well and truly get warmed up, but in this time I was able to establish that the Sport's Cafe should genuinely be a venue of choice for students, with drinks offers spanning through most of the week - this night specifically there are £1 Corky's shots, £1.50 Carlsberg pints, beer bottles and single house spirit mixers, £2 tequila shots and VK bottles, £2.50 double house spirit mixers and further offers for beer or cocktail jugs. Truly a student's dream - that is, if you drink of course.
The dancefloor is located at the back of the venue on the ground floor, it's quite well sized with a separate bar and a stage to accompany it, but it definitely gets packed. I was so astoundingly hot, perhaps because it's summer, but with enough Cherry or Blueberry Corky's and you'll be none the wiser. The music was what could only be called an "eclectic mix of commercial", with the DJ playing a couple of songs from most genres, from 80s to dance, to pop, to bashment. I think there's a little something for everyone, but I am rather biased and I distinctly noticed a notable absence of funky house. This is my preference, but is also slowly becoming a little more commercial, so this did surprise me. All in all, if you can't handle a little diversity on your musical palate, the Sport's Cafe won't be for you.
My final point to make would be the crowd - I'm going to try and do this with most venues without coming off as racist (as I'm not trying to be), so I am TRYING MY BEST not to offend, but be honest about the mix of people the way you would day to day as generally, you just don't know. The crowd in the venue was predominantly white and student aged to late twenties, not yobbish but definitely a little rowdy (in a fun way). This is a venue where you feel like a mixture of people can all be at ease - everyone seemed perfectly friendly, up for a laugh and social... all in all, I can't wait to get back to the Sport's Cafe again... great night, great prices, centrally located with a clean and smart interior.

Iconic Deaths - 25th June 2009
No doubt that even before reading this post you will know about one of the "iconic deaths" I am referring to, but I'm not going to write the same old spiel about how Michael Jackson was a legend, how it's so amazingly sad he died... it's been played out by the media, and the sun hasn't even risen in England yet (therefore not even 6 hours have passed since it was reported).
BUT FIRST - let's get to poor Farrah Fawcett.
Actress Farrah Fawcett Dead at 62 - Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment - FOXNews.com
Whether you know her by name or not, you will more than likely know about the legend that is Charlie's Angels. Farrah Fawcett was one of the main individuals who helped to make this show as big as it became and still is today, and even if you're not acquainted with the old series no doubt the newer films are are a recognisable to you. She was catapulted into the limelight during the 70's, also famous partly due to her amazing hair! Who doesn't remember the Farrah flick? If you don't... you better learn - girlies, everytime you flick those ends out, it's because of this lady. Cancer is a horrible disease, what a sad way to go - especially after the hopes of remission. Luckily she lived a fruitful life and entertained alot of people and will continue to do so for years to come - I hope she is remembered well, the beautiful blonde in the iconic red swimsuit - rest in peace.
And yes, of course... Michael Jackson passed today too.
Michael Jackson Dies - TMZ.com has become a legend on the internet tonight. Forget what you heard about Perez Hilton (and also the inaccuracy of all gossip blogs) - TMZ.com has proven itself to be ahead of the lot. First to report MJ's death, they sent the media world into a frenzy, leaving it and the general public pondering as to whether it was merely another blog theory or whether it had actually been a bunch of computer savvy celebrity addicts that had first got wind of this musical legend's death. As then confirmed by the LA Times, and even later by the Los Angeles coroner, Michael Jackson indeed passed away from a cardiac arrest. I do believe that this is genuinely sad news, MJ was definitely an icon for the 20th Century who did a heck of a lot for music but definitely led an interesting life, it's just a shame that because he has passed the media believes they now have license to re-scrutinize every aspect of his life.
Some people will think I'm a biased fan, this is not the case, but we as the public did not know Michael Jackson, nor can we say he was a good man, or even a great man. Terrible allegations were made, we are all aware of this and the outcome - we do not know why they arose, whether they were dealt with in the correct manner or whether all parties involved were innocent. What we do know is that the US Justice system chose to drop this in 2005, and we are now in 2009. We know it happened, we do not need to desecrate his memory by analysing whether these allegations were true or not, whether there was something wrong with him or not... or any further analysis other than that the Earth has lost someone that we can truly say was a GREAT performer. His music touched everyone, everywhere on some level - he overcame a lot of personal troubles that we are aware of, and he has a family that are mourning his loss. Let's leave it at that.

Lauren London is pregnant with Lil' Wayne's baby... but there's more...
"Lauren London Was At Lost For Words After Finding Out About Wayne New Baby"
As if it wasn't bad enough that the lyrical crazyman/genius Lil' Wayne had knocked up poor, beautiful Lauren London (I know men out there won't be arguing with that)... he's gone and done that shit again, and the girl's not even full term. Hollywood baby mama drama... but if Eddie Murphy is any example to go by... the chicks will be alright still.
Why do men have this need to spread their seed absolutely everywhere?? Wouldn't it be nicer to keep all your kids in one family if you could?? Makes for an easier life... and probably a tighter unit. He better watch out his kids don't end up like Bow Wow... check to see what he said to his dad for father's day.

Breaking News: Chris Brown Gets Probation and Community Service - Livesteez News
Are you really surprised? Rihanna is setting us back a good 10 years, she should have taken the stand and exposed his ass. Give it a year, she'll probably regret this douche move. At least he had the decency to plea guilty... do you think he would have if TMZ.com hadn't leaked the photograph of Rihanna's injuries? I'll leave you to ponder.

The British National Party...
This is probably the main reason I have started this blog, but by no means will it be all I write about.
The BNP are a scary thought in England, especially after the European Parliament elections. People tell me not to get so riled up, that they won't get anymore power than they already have (they won due to voter apathy, not due to increasing popularity - they gained less votes than they did in 2004), but the fact that at least 943,000 people voted them in to EU Parliament is quite scary to say the least. At present, with the English population being somewhere between 50 and 52 million people, I'm not shaking in my boots about the BNP's proposed policy changes just yet, but the fact that people are listening and helping to garner support and funds for this extremist party does scare me. Maybe I'm naive, but I really never thought there would be almost a million through and through racist people in England in 2009. This may seem harsh considering we live in a democratic society - but when you vote in individuals who have been convicted of incitement of racial hatred and deny the holocaust ever existed, you can only be really, really thick... or racist (and fascist AND homophobic). Have we not learnt from the civil wars and problems of the less developed countries of the world? Race does not matter!
The further chord that this outcome strikes with me is that Yorkshire and Humberside voted in one of the 2 new BNP Members of European Parliament. Being from Leeds, again, I never realised the sheer number of people in such close proximity shared these kind of views, and I just feel like now is a time for everyone to truly make an effort in England. Integration of all cultures and races, re-education for those who are misguided as to the policies that are currently in place, the traditions of other cultures and the facts of criminal behaviour and the BNP's party members. The BNP are playing on the stereotypes that non-white English races have, and in many cases live up to - this needs to stop. No 1 person is represented by a group.
So I've decided I'm going to do a little experiment. I'm going to create a different account on Facebook and join a number of the BNP groups (the lead group containing over 10,000 members), possibly pretending to be white, possibly not. I'd like to get a true insight into what the BNP's voters really think, deep down and whether they are indeed racist, or merely misguided by false truths disguised as politics. I was born and bred in England... nobody can tell me otherwise. It will be interesting to see whether they are in agreement of all of the BNP's proposed policies or whether they are simply selective supporters - I already came across one individual who refers to himself as "queer" yet is an avid BNP supporter, although he realises the policies they previously promoted would leave him imprisoned. The BNP are very clever, they have removed all of the material on their website relating to issues that they can't twist in such a way that it is beneficial to them at this moment in time, but having been interested in this right-wing party for almost 6 years and with the joys of the referencing material WIKIPEDIA (yes, I know it's not accurate on everything, but in this instance the citations have merely been removed by the party from their website) I am fully aware that the BNP would re criminalize homosexuality if they could, and have even suggesting bring back "Clause 28" into the English Legal process - laws whereby anyone promoting homosexuality is subjected to criminal proceedings.
Anyway... let you know how it goes... if you can be bothered, let me know what you think.

Racism... the beginnings...
I'm writing this assuming that you know me, maybe I shouldn't be so presumptuous so I'll give myself a little introduction. I'm K, a 21 year old mixed race (hence the caramel) law student (hence the dreams... I DREAM BIG! QC BIG!) in London who has a passion for the media, the nightclub scene and would like to get into modelling a little more (a less important dream). I'm not religious nor am I usually politically inclined, I personally believe without these influences in your life it's much easier to think for yourself, develop your own opinions and then choose when you're mature enough. That is not to say I don't have the utmost respect for anybody who has a religion - it takes alot of strength to have faith, but this has been my personal experience... and I feel like it's led me the right way.
While I may not be politically inclined, I definitely appreciate certain political moments as much as the next person - I was overjoyed to see a mixed race president in the United States, we've come leaps and bounds in the past few decades - the only shame was the actual constant focus on race. Would he have won if he wasn't mixed race? We'll never know because it seemed to be the main issue. I don't even know what his policies were. I just know Obama is half Kenyan, Hilary Clinton was a woman running for the same post, John McCain is white and old and Sarah Palin's daughter got knocked up. Blame the media. But racism is one issue I feel very strongly about, having been subjected to many lovely forms of "jokey" racism over the years. FOR INSTANCE:
HALF BREED
MONGREL
NOT BLACK, NOT WHITE... MUST BE GREY
NIGGER
PAKI
ARAB
I imagine many of the people reading are probably laughing, don't worry I won't judge you for it... but when you truly get down to the nitty gritty of it, these are disgusting things to say to people whether they are anatomically correct or not. These remarks have come from a variety of individuals from a variety of places, most commonly white English people, but quite often from Black people. I don't imagine Barack has been referred to by black people as any of these names, as he has become such a pivotal figure in the advancement of racial equality in the USA, but by birthright... he is mixed race. Now picture someone using these words to describe Obama... it'd be disgusting, right? We are all equal, none of us chose our race... we don't deserve to be a running joke for it either.
Admittedly, I do realise the majority of the people that say these things really just need to either be locked up or sentenced to start high school again - but is it really appropriate to use these remarks as jokes with your friends? Personally I'm against it. And I'm hoping that people are slowly coming to realise that we're just enabling people, such as the BNP to alienate certain individuals from our community - the British community, which I class as inclusive of asylum seekers, refugees, black, Asian and white people. Racism in all its forms, is wrong.

What the heck? (First Post)
Well, if you know me, you know that I love to write. And I'm always talking, talking, talking - I can phrase the most horrible insults you can imagine in the most eloquent manner and I always have something to say about well... something. So I've started a blog. I've got my ideas for it, but you'll have to see. And suggest! But for now, I'm just going to keep it general - what's on my mind, current issues... the basics of blogging really.
Future ideas include reviews of student events in London (because if you know me, you know I like them... and it might help the future students waste less time in those dead out places we've all been to at some point!), an issue of the week section - there's always something going on that we're all interested in, whether you're interested in my thoughts or not, it should be an interesting read. And then a couple of standard sections, such as music, TV, film... maybe a spotlight for those people at university in London who are well and truly doing it how it should be done - they are making waves and they haven't even graduated.
Any suggestions or ideas, always welcome... no hating allowed. :)
